Air Canada passengers burned during turbulence
Five passengers and three cabin crew were treated by paramedics at Sydney airport after being injured in the incident, but none of them were hospitalised.
The accident happened when the plane dropped suddenly as it hit the turbulence, sending a coffee cart flying into the air.
"They were serving tea and coffee and then we ran in to some turbulence," a woman who was scalded by the boiling liquid told Nine News.
"The coffee cups just went up and sprayed everywhere," another female traveller added.
The women told Nine News the cabin crew kept their cool despite being injured themselves.
In an unrelated incident at Sydney airport this morning, police were forced to evacuate thousands of passengers from the Qantas domestic terminal after two passengers entered a secure area without being screened, ABC News reports.
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is reviewing security footage in a bid to find out which passengers caused the breach.
The incident, which happened about 10am, caused four flights to be delayed.
